In one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time, Faerie Tale Theatre makes another great adaptation. In an interesting idea, this faerie tale is done with a completely African-American cast - featuring of course, two legendary dancers in the lead roles: Ben Vereen and the late Gregory Hines. Hines is completely loveable as Edgar and Vereen is charming in the title role. Alfre Woodard's pouty Princess Lovinia is a great addition but the best part by far is the appearance of Brock Peters as the Ogre. Famous for his role in "To Kill a Mockingbird," this role is about as far away from that as you can get. He scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid, and his scene with Ben Vereen is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. A definate must-see.

Trivia:

- This is the only Faerie Tale Theatre episode to feature an entirely African-American cast.

- Watch for the three herolds that appear throughout. All three appeared in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
