The writers were very brave in taking on one of Hans Christian Andersen's longest and most famous fairy tales. The story which spans well over 40 pages is very complicated, but the writers manage to condense it very well. While they certainly left a lot out, but that's to be expected when you know the actual length of the tale. The sweet point of the story is still very much in tact, and carried out beautifully. Lee Remick makes a lovely Snow Queen - icy but loving. Melissa Gilbert and Lance Kerwin are delightful as the two faithful friends. This adaptation is beautifully executed and helped a great deal by Shelley Duvall's sweet narration.
